ROUNDUP : Defense Carries Channel Islands to Easy Victory

Channel Islands used an aggressive, full-court defense to coast to a 55-27 win over Rio Mesa on Saturday in the second round of the Thousand Oaks girls’ basketball tournament at Thousand Oaks.
Candis Carper scored 14 points to lead four Channel Islands players in double figures. Carrie Davidson, Camisca Hawkins and Sal Pauau each scored 10 points.
Rio Mesa (3-4) scored its first field goal with 6:23 left in the first half, making the score 16-4.
Channel Islands (6-3) scored 12 unanswered points to open the third quarter before Eryn Farney hit a 20-foot jump shot.
In other tournament games:
Palmdale 51, Hueneme 36--Karee Bonde scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Falcons to a second-round win. Bonde, held without a point in the third quarter, scored seven in the final period.
Thousand Oaks 40, Burroughs (Ridgecrest) 35--Michele Palmisano scored a game-high 31 points for Thousand Oaks (6-4). The Lancers raced to a 16-4 first-quarter lead, but Burroughs battled back to trail at the half, 21-16.
