BREA-OLINDA TOURNAMENT : Sunny Hills Loses, 74-61, in Opener

Joe Konstantarakis scored 24 points and Ruben Oronoz had 23 to lead Whittier Christian High School to a 74-61 victory over Sunny Hills on Wednesday in the first round of the Brea-Olinda boys’ basketball tournament.
Brian Uribe had 12 points for Whittier Christian (4-3).
Sunny Hills (1-8) was led by Dominic Carnesi, who had 24 points, and David Ragsdale, who had 22. Kenny Overby had 10 points for Sunny Hills.
In other first-round games:
Gahr 82, La Habra 43--Gahr took a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and was never seriously threatened. La Habra (3-7) had only one player in double figures, James Klegg , who had 18 points. Brandon Titus had 22 points for Gahr (5-5), and Raymond James had 12 and Andre Coleman had 10.
El Dorado 84, Buena Park 54--Mike Bradach scored 11 points and Jerome Facione nine as El Dorado outscored Buena Park, 28-12, in the third quarter to put the game away. Facione finished with 29 points and Bradach had 18. El Dorado led, 41-32, at halftime.
Montclair 61, El Modena 37--Mitch Harris scored 17 points to lead Montclair. The Cavaliers got off to a fast start and led, 23-9, at the end of the first quarter. Jesse Jones scored 12 points and Pat Murray 10 for Montclair. Tom Hetzel scored 16 points for El Modena (5-6).
Centennial 89, Sonora 48--Damu Harvey scored 23 points and Michael Taylor had 18 to lead Centennial in a consolation game. Scott Oxarart led Sonora (4-6) with 12 points.
In today’s championship quarterfinals, El Dorado plays Compton at 3 p.m., Gahr meets Whittier Christian at 4:45 p.m., La Mirada takes on St. John Bosco at 6:30 p.m. and Fallbrook battles Brea-Olinda at 8:15 p.m.
