Charges Filed Over Odors at Landfill

The Los Angeles city attorney’s office filed a criminal complaint Thursday against the Bradley Landfill in Sun Valley, accusing its private operator of negligently allowing noxious odors to escape from the dump last May.
The three-count misdemeanor complaint, which could result in fines totaling $12,000, was filed against Valley Reclamation Co., owner and operator of the landfill in the 9200 block of Tujunga Avenue.
The complaint said the odor problem arose May 1 and May 2 when landfill workers failed to rebury garbage they had dredged up while installing a system of underground pipes to collect methane gas seeping from the landfill. Neighbors reported the odors to South Coast Air Quality Management District inspectors.
Arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 15.
