Weekend TV : 11th Annual Cable Awards Show to Air Live; ‘Funniest Home Videos,’ ‘Simpsons’ to Debut

Cable devotees can cheer for their favorite cable stars and programs as the 11th Annual ACE Awards, cable’s version of the Emmys, is televised live from the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles Sunday on several cable networks.
Dinah Shore, Paul Reiser, Julie Brown and Joe Namath will host the program, beginning at 5 p.m. on AMC, Bravo, BET, CNBC, Discovery, Family, Movietime, Sports-Channel, TBS and TNT. Nick at Nite and Lifetime will show the ceremony at 8 p.m. Others appearing on the program include Mike Tyson, Tip O’Neill, Faye Dunaway, Blair Brown and Vanessa Redgrave.
Two new network series debut Sunday. “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” hosted by Bob Saget, airs at 8 p.m. (7)(3)(10)(42). “The Simpsons,” Fox’s new animated series, moves into its regular weekly time slot at 8:30 p.m. (11) (6).
And on the eve of the national observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, two awards shows celebrate African-American achievement. Sunday at 8 p.m. on Channel 5, Marla Gibbs and Clifton Davis host the “The Stellar Gospel Music Awards.” Then at 10 p.m. on Channel 9, Flip Wilson and Natalie Cole emcee “The 11th Annual Black Achievement Awards.”
And Sunday at midnight on Channel 5, “Dionne and Friends” premieres as a new music and talk series hosted by Dionne Warwick.
