‘Green Acres’ Movie Hits a Snag

All roads may not lead to Hooterville for Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor. Plans for a two-hour CBS movie, “The Return to Green Acres,” hit a snag when Albert reportedly said he was pulling out over script problems.
“The show collapsed just days before Christmas and everybody was out of work,” said an executive on the show, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “And why didn’t he want to do it? He said it makes him look like a buffoon.”
CBS would not discuss the status of the project, which picks up 20 years from where the situation comedy “Green Acres” left off when it was canceled in 1971.
But Albert’s agent, Howard Goldberg, insisted Thursday that, despite some “growing pains,” plans for the movie were still on, with both sides trying to work things out.
“We had some script problems, but that’s normal in translating a half-hour comedy into a two-hour movie,” Goldberg said. “It’s everybody’s intention to make this happen.”
