Orange Glen Elementary School in Escondido has become the county’s first to win a new computer system under a program sponsored by the Vons grocery company.
Orange Glen received an Apple IIe Color System Friday after parents and friends of the school collected cash register tape receipts totaling $175,000.
Any of the county’s 490 schools can compete for six different Apple systems by collecting the receipts. A minimum of $65,000 is needed for the least expensive system. Orange Glen already has raised an additional $100,000 in receipts as part of its goal toward winning six systems before the program ends in mid-May.
