CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : COALINGA : Many Sleep Through Small Quake; No Injuries Reported

A small earthquake rattled the Coalinga area early Friday, but there were no injuries and no reported damage. “It hit just after 1 a.m. and we didn’t even get any telephone calls,” police dispatcher Linda Day said. “We felt it here but apparently most people were asleep and didn’t even know it happened.” The quake, which had a magnitude of 4.3, was centered in the mountains about 30 miles northwest of Coalinga.
