COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Chapman Loses Conference Opener to UC Riverside, 68-54

Despite 25 points by Roger Middleton, Chapman lost to UC Riverside, 68-54, in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s basketball opener for both teams Friday at Riverside.
Middleton, a junior forward, was nine of nine from the field and seven of 13 from the free-throw line.
Mike Ritter led Riverside (11-3, 1-0). Ritter made five three-pointers.
Riverside led by 15 points early in the first half but Chapman (8-6, 0-1) rallied to cut the lead to 33-31 at halftime.
In the California Coastal Conference:
Pacific Christian 97, West Coast Christian College 84--Brian Keiser scored 31 points, including six three-pointers, to lead visiting PCC (10-8, 5-0). Mike Vincent scored 17, and Tag Kelly and Steve Welch had 14 each for PCC.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s basketball:
UC Riverside 79, Chapman 72--Chapman only shot 32% from the field in the conference opener at Riverside. Chapman (12-4, 0-1) was led by Jennifer Uecke, who had 16 points, and Julie King, who had 12. Riverside (7-7, 1-1) was led by Trina Hypolite and Becky Geeson, who each had 18 points.
