Innovative Housing

In referring to your article about “Families Who Dared To Dream” (Dec. 24), please note that the group’s name is really Home Ownership Partnership, also called “HOP.” As the attorney for the project, it has been a privilege to assist in the creative legal and financial arrangements to complete this project.
The Wilmington Home Owners (WHO) attempted to obtain a moratorium on construction of high-density multifamily dwellings, and was successful with the support of City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores. The HOP project demonstrates that quality affordable homes can be built in communities such as Wilmington. With a determined, talented leader such as Peter Mendoza, and a good deal of legal gyrations, local groups can develop their own housing. Your article reveals that the wait was worth it!
