Hitachi to Open a South Carolina Plant: Hitachi Electronic Devices, a subsidiary of Hitachi America Ltd., will invest about $150 million over five years in a 522,000-square-foot plant to manufacture color television picture tubes in Greenville, S.C. Gov. Carroll Campbell said Hitachi’s investment is the largest by a Japanese company in a new facility in South Carolina.
