Invoking John: Yoko Ono unveiled “Painting to Hammer a Nail in 1961-1990” at Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan on Friday. She may have invoked memories of her late husband, John Lennon, when she said, “I dedicate this piece to all martyrs in the history of the Earth.” The art allows visitors to pound a nail into a cross-shaped piece of wood. Lennon and Ono were married for 11 years before the former Beatle was murdered in 1980.
Carrying the Name: The identical twins of the late U.S. Rep. Mickey Leland, who was killed in a plane crash in Ethiopia in August, have been named Cameron George and Austin Mickey Leland. Alison Leland, who gave birth to the twin boys 10 weeks prematurely Jan. 14 in Atlanta, said last week the children are named after their father. “George is Mickey’s real name, Mickey is actually a nickname,” she said.
Remodeled: Chrysler Corp. Chairman Lee Iacocca is planning to marry for the third time, his fiancee said last week. Darrien Earle, a California restaurateur, said she and Iacocca, 65, are engaged. The couple reportedly have not set a wedding date, but, according to Earle, hope to tie the knot this fall. “I’m really excited. I hope he’s as excited as I am,” said Earle, who is in her 40s and has been married before.
Elvis Again: There will be yet another sighting of Elvis this week. This one, though, will probably be as real as they get. “Elvis (Eleven Times),” a painting by the late Andy Warhol, will be publicly shown for the first time at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Art. The 36-by-6 1/2-foot work had been painted in 1962 and stored in Warhol’s studio. He died in 1987.
