California Amplifier to Quit Defense Work

California Amplifier, the Camarillo maker of microwave communications devices, said it signed a tentative agreement with Newbury Park-based Amplica Inc. that will allow it to get out of the defense industry market and concentrate on products for home satellite dishes, an area where its sales have been growing.
Under the deal, Amplica would hire “the majority” of California Amplifier’s employees who work on military devices under existing contracts and purchase some of the company’s inventory. California Amplifier would agree to take no new military orders.
