ORANGE : Ruling Delayed on Development Plan
- Share via
City officials have delayed a final ruling on the development of businesses and houses on 37 acres along Santiago Creek.
The City Council referred Burnett-Ehline Development Co.’s proposal back to the Planning Commission for further review.
Although the commission recommended in December that the council deny the proposal for the Santiago Golf Course property, the plan has been modified to meet some of the commission’s concerns.
An alternative plan presented to the council replaces the previously proposed extension of La Veta Avenue from Tustin Street to Cambridge Avenue with a landscaped greenbelt featuring walkways and bike paths.
Although some residents speaking at the 1 1/2-hour public hearing last week said they support the proposal, many expressed concerns about traffic, noise, the possibility of flooding and other issues.
The commission is scheduled to consider the development Feb. 5. The council will consider the project again Feb. 20.
