THE SIDELINES : Assistant Coach to Leave UCLA

HOUSTON — Larry Coyer, defensive backfield coach at UCLA, has been hired as defensive coordinator at the University of Houston, Coach John Jenkins announced.
Coyer, 46, who has been at UCLA for three seasons, was defensive coordinator at Memphis State in 1986 and earlier had coached for the Memphis Showboats of the USFL.
