THE SIDELINES : NBA Incidents Draw Fines for 7

NEW YORK — All-Stars Charles Barkley of the Philadelphia 76ers and Isiah Thomas of the Detroit Pistons were among seven players fined for incidents during NBA games last week.
Thomas was fined $2,500 for slapping Mychal Thompson of the Lakers several times in the back of the head in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, Thorn said.
Barkley was fined $3,500 for initiating an altercation with Jack Haley of the New Jersey Nets by pushing Haley in the face during the third quarter of last Saturday’s game, Rod Thorn, NBA vice president for operations, said today. Haley was fined $1,000 for retaliating, and three Nets--Roy Hinson, Charles Shackleford and Purvis Short--were fined $500 apiece for leaving their bench area during the altercation.
Darrell Walker of the Washington Bullets was fined $1,500 for not leaving the court immediately after a game against New Jersey last Wednesday and for verbally abusing the officials.
