Positive Notes Come From Music Classes
As a retired music teacher, I would like to applaud Sam Enriquez for his article.
Students who play a musical instrument or sing in a chorus are interested and excited about their music classes. This enthusiasm helps build a positive attitude toward school and stimulates greater effort in academic classes.
The majority of my music students stayed in school and were not interested in gang activity. I have had many students who would have dropped out of school if they had been denied the opportunity to be in band or orchestra.
If the schools would restore not only music, but also art, shop, drama, homemaking and other elective courses we would see a marked improvement in our school system.
