SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Bob Cousy announced today that he was resigning as president of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
The Boston Celtic great, the first member of the Hall of Fame to be elected its president, cited the pressures of a heavy personal schedule as well as other considerations in his decision.
“The Basketball Hall of Fame is truly indebted to Bob for his efforts on our behalf,” said Joe O’Brien, executive director of the Hall of Fame. “There could never be a better spokesman for this museum.”
Cousy, who is a television commentator for Boston Celtics games, was elected president of the Hall of Fame in July.
Vice President George A. Dickerman, president of Spalding Sports Worldwide, will fill out the rest of Cousy’s term, O’Brien said.
