Bush Calls Meeting on Global Warming

WASHINGTON — President Bush on Monday invited representatives of the world’s largest industrial nations, including the Soviet Union, to a conference in Washington on global warming and other environmental concerns.
The conference, set for April 17 and 18, will be “devoted to science and economics issues” of the controversy, a White House statement said. About 20 nations, including the major industrial ones and several others with large land masses, such as Brazil, were invited to send delegates, aides said.
