Loyola’s Weekend Full of Action

The Loyola Marymount baseball and volleyball teams have a full weekend of action slated. The baseball team, 11-6, travels to Santa Barbara for games at 2:30 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Saturday against the Gauchos. The Lions, who haven’t played since Saturday, have won three games in a row and seven of their last nine.
The Lions are hitting .306. Outfielder Rick Mediavilla tops the regulars at .413, followed by shortstop Chris Gomez at .381 with nine doubles. Catcher Miah Bradbury is the top run producer with 18 RBIs; Tony Kounas and Joe Ciccarella lead in home runs with three each.
Left-hander Jon Willard leads the pitching staff with a 4-1 record and 21 strikeouts.
The Loyola volleyball team, winner of three of its last five matches, plays host to George Mason University at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Lions, 4-7, lost to USC in five games Wednesday. They rallied to win the fourth game and held a 16-15 lead in the final game before falling, 17-16.
Loyola outside hitter Sio Saipaia set a school record with 36 kills, Chuck Donlon added 25 kills, with a .432 hitting percentage, and Chris Young had 26 kills on 38% hitting. Setter Rick McLaughlin recorded 95 assists.
The volleyball team is also home on Tuesday for a conference match with UC Santa Barbara, then plays its next three matches on the road.
