Jamie Rosenkranz scored nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead Servite to a 46-29 victory over a depleted Dos Pueblos team in the Southern Regional Division III championship Saturday at the Sports Arena.
The Friars (20-11) will play Northern California champion Hayward Mt. Eden, a 45-37 winner over Fremont American, in the State Division III final Saturday at the Oakland Coliseum.
The loss ended a seven-game winning streak for Dos Pueblos (18-14). Five of Dos Pueblos’ 12 players suffered from food poisoning.
Chris Gaines, the Chargers’ center who averaged 20 points a game, was hit hardest. He spent the entire first half in the locker room and didn’t enter the game until the third quarter, by which time Servite led, 24-11.
Gaines finished with seven points on three-of-12 shooting, but he sparked the Chargers.
Dos Pueblos outscored Servite, 8-0, to cut the deficit to 24-19 with 2:18 left in the third quarter. But Rosenkranz took over in the fourth quarter.
