PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Dowding Pitches a No-Hitter in Orange Lutheran Sweep

Kent Dowding pitched a no-hitter in the first game and drove in four runs in the second to lead Orange Lutheran to a sweep of a high school baseball doubleheader over Serra at Orange Lutheran Saturday.
Dowding, a senior right-hander, struck out 14 and walked two as the Lancers won the opener, 12-0. He also struck out the side in four of seven innings. Moving to first base in the second game, Dowding was two for five with a home run in helping Orange Lutheran to a 16-4 victory.
Catcher David Rossi had a single and a double in three at-bats in the opener to drive in five runs. Mark Carillo, who pitched the first five innings, helped himself in the second game by driving in two runs with a single and a double, and Doug Senne added a home run and three RBIs as Orange Lutheran improved to 4-1.
In other nonleague baseball:
Trabuco Hills 5-1, Garden Grove 1-0--Ryan Meredith’s bases-loaded single knocked in two runs in the first inning to lead Trabuco Hills (4-0) in the first game. Steve Height, Jim Skidmore and Greg Damon each had two hits. Chris Garvey hit a triple with one on and one out in the bottom of the seventh to win the second game.
Santa Margarita 6-1, Pius X 1-0--Joey Farris had three hits and scored a run and Sergio Muniz had three hits and four RBIs to lead Santa Margarita (2-1) in the first game. In the second game, David Nix scored on a wild pitch to win the game in the seventh. Nix walked to start the inning and stole second and third base to set up the score.
Valencia 6-8, La Habra 2-7--Host Valencia (4-0) was led by Eric Petzoldt, who pitched a six-hit nine-strikeout complete game, and Greg Morikawa, who had two hits and homered in the fifth inning.
In the El Segundo Tournament:
Edison 9, Hart 1--James Eidam had two hits, including a bases-loaded triple in the seventh to lead Edison’s six-run inning. Josh Gingrich pitched a two-hitter and also had two hits and scored twice for visiting Edison (2-1).
Long Beach Wilson 7, Westminster 5--Visiting Westminster (2-3) took a 5-4 lead on a three-run home run by Kirk Pierce, but Wilson came back to score in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Brea-Olinda 12, Cerritos 3--Host Brea-Olinda (4-2) was led by Pat Simec’s three RBIs and Chis Briones, who had two hits and three RBIs.
