THE SIDELINES : Kronberger Wins World Slalom

VEMDALEN, Sweden — Petra Kronberger led an Austrian sweep of the top four places in a women’s World Cup slalom today and widened her lead in the overall standings.
Kronberger had a combined time of 1 minute, 24.40 seconds. Ida Ladstaetter was second, .22 behind, followed by Claudia Strobl, .28 behind, and Karin Buder, .57 behind.
It was the first World Cup slalom victory ever for Kronberger, who has scored most of her points this season in the downhill.
Diann Roffe of Williston, Vt., placed 13th, 1.81 seconds off Kronberger’s time, for the top American finish.
