A homemade pipe bomb was thrown through the window of an Encino home early Friday morning, causing slight damage to the house but no injuries, Los Angeles police reported.
The homemade device shattered a rear window and exploded about 1 a.m. inside the living room of the house in the 4200 block of Mooncrest Place, Detective Ken Bourne said. Four family members were at home at the time. The window and furnishings were damaged by the blast and smoke, he said.
Bourne said investigators had found no motive for the bombing. He said it was unclear if the house was chosen at random or the family was the target.
William Thorpe, 43, who has lived in the house with his wife and two daughters for nine years, said he had no idea why the device was thrown into his house. “It must be a mistake,” he said.
