Don Appell; Broadway Writer and Director

Don Appell, 73, who wrote the 1961 musical comedy “Milk and Honey” and other plays while acting and directing on Broadway. Besides “Milk and Honey,” about Americans in Israel, Appell wrote “Lullaby” and “A Girl Could Get Lucky.” A native New Yorker, Appell began his acting career at age 12 in summer stock theater. He later appeared on Broadway in “Odyssey,” “Native Son” and “Tapestry in Gray.” Among the Broadway productions he directed were “Dr. Social,” “Career Angel” and his own play, “This, Too, Shall Pass.” He also directed television productions in New York and Los Angeles. In New York City on May 4 of heart failure.
