CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : Poll Shows Feinstein Barely Leading Race

With the state primary election less than a month away, the independent California Poll reported that Dianne Feinstein holds a slight lead over John K. Van de Kamp in the race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. The poll, based on interviews May 1-8 with 631 registered Democrats, found that 39% favored the former San Francisco mayor and 36% were for the state attorney general. Pollster Mervin Field said the race is still volatile; 24% of those polled reported being undecided.
