UCLA Women Advance in NCAA Tennis

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The UCLA women’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the third consecutive season with a 5-4 victory over Pepperdine Friday.
Behind sophomore Iwalani McCalla, who upset Janna Kovacevich in No. 3 singles, the Bruins reached today’s match against Florida, which defeated USC, 5-2.
UCLA (23-6) won four of the six singles matches against Pepperdine despite having No. 1 player, Jessica Emmons, and regular No. 3 player, Kimberly Po, out with injuries.
In the other semifinal, top-ranked Stanford will meet Texas, which beat Cal, 5-4. Stanford (27-0) swept Georgia, 6-0.
