A motorcyclist was killed when he lost control of the cycle while rounding a curve in the 9600 block of Black Mountain Road in the Miramar area, authorities said Sunday.
Almer B. Hedges, 30, of Clairemont died at the scene shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, a spokesman for the coroner’s office said. He was not wearing a helmet.
Cara Hawkins, 20, a passenger on the motorcycle, was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla with minor injuries. She was in good condition Sunday.
Hawkins told investigators that she and Hedges had been drinking at a party for an hour and a half before the accident, said Sgt. Fred England, a police spokesman.
Hedges was eastbound on Black Mountain Road near Kearny Villa Road when he lost control of the cycle, struck a curb on the north side of the road and was hurled into a chain-link fence and tree, investigators said.
