SHORT TAKES : ‘Breathless’ Madonna Muted

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Is Breathless voiceless? Madonna, who plays Breathless Mahoney in the upcoming movie “Dick Tracy,” had to cancel tonight’s sold-out show in Rosemont, Ill., because she has infected vocal cords.

“She performed Thursday night against doctors’ orders as she did not want to disappoint her fans,” a spokeswoman for Jam Productions said. “Madonna agreed to cancel her (Friday) performance . . . due to the potential risk of further damage.” Tonight’s show, which will not be rescheduled, was to have been the last Chicago-area stop for Madonna’s Blond Ambition tour.
