Maxine Mahon of the California Ballet is headed for the Soviet Union at the invitation of the Ballet School in Tbilisi, Soviet Georgia. The director will attend a two-week course for dance teachers, scheduled to begin at the end of May.
The trip will coincide with Cal Ballet student Calvin Kitten’s graduation from an exchange program in Tbilisi, which will bring a Soviet dance student to the company’s ranks in the fall.
Mahon is planning side-trips to Moscow and other Soviet cities as well, to pave the way for a 1991-92 tour of the Soviet Union by her San Diego-based ballet troupe.
Olga Smoak, an international dance agent, will accompany Mahon to the Soviet Union.
