Japanese Giant Choses Motorola Technology: Nippon Telegraph & Telephone and the Japanese Ministry of Post and Telecommunications chose technology developed by Schaumberg, Ill.-based Motorola for mobile telephone networks. The technology will change sounds into digital code, then back into voice. While the move “enhances” Motorola’s chance to sell its speech coders for use in cellular telephones, the electronics company must license the technology, without requiring payment of a royalty, to other suppliers, spokesman Tim Kellogg said.
