Former Umpire Augie Donatelli, 76, Dies

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Augie Donatelli, a National League umpire for 24 years and the founder of the Major League Umpires Assn., died Thursday. He was 76.
Donatelli died in his sleep at home, said his wife, Mary Louise Donatelli.
Donatelli, known for his fiery on-field manner, umpired five World Series and four All-Star games.
In 1964, Donatelli founded the Major League Umpires Assn.
For the past three years, Donatelli had scouted new umpires for the National League.
Donatelli was born in Heilwood, Pa. He is survived by his 65-year-old wife; two daughters, Barbara Kulicka, 42, and Carole Holsonback, 39; two sons, David, 37, Patrick, 34, and six grandchildren.
