ORANGE : Ban of 3 Types of Fireworks Approved
- Share via
An ordinance banning the possession, sale and discharge of three types of small fireworks was unanimously adopted by the City Council this week as a temporary measure until voters decide on the issue.
Fire Chief Martel Thompson told the council that the ordinance, which will outlaw ground bloom flowers, sparklers and “piccolo” petes, will be “extremely difficult to enforce” because manufacturers package the banned items with other fireworks. Fire officials asked that those types of fireworks be banned because records show they are responsible for the most injuries among users.
Mayor Don E. Smith asked that the ordinance’s effectiveness be examined after the Fourth of July.
