Powell Dominates Ventura Field

It took Jim Powell Jr. of Anaheim three weeks to get the feel of the quarter-mile dirt oval at Ventura Raceway.
On Friday night, Powell found the groove and powered his Camaro to victory in the Street Stock 15-lap oval track main event. It was the first main-event victory at Ventura for Powell, who started racing at the venue just three weeks ago.
Lynn Brader of Somis finished a distant second and Don Keeter of Ventura took third.
After losing the Mini Stock oval track main event by half a car length last week, Marty Desbrow of Ventura fought back to win the 20-lap race.
Despite driving on a flat rear tire for the final half-lap, Cory Kruseman of Ventura finished ahead of Terry Swauger of Ojai to win the Mini Stock eight-lap figure-eight main event. It was Kruseman’s fourth main-event win in the figure-eight division.
Mike Kirby of Redondo Beach worked his way up from seventh to triumph in the 12-lap figure-eight main event.
Track one-lap records were set during qualifying by Keeter in Street Stocks at 16.504 seconds and Desbrow in the Mini Stocks at 16.374.
