Champions Will Defend Titles at Biathlon

EL TORO — The defending men’s and women’s world champions will be among those entered in Sunday’s biathlon at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
Champions George Pierce and Liz Downing and other professionals will compete for the $50,000 first prize in the elite division. The biathlon also includes age divisions for amateurs. The races begin at 8 a.m.
The event will begin with a five-kilometer run followed by a 30-kilometer bicycle race and another five-kilometer run.
Late race registration will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Irvine Marriott.
