COMMUNITY COLLEGE STATE BASEBALL : Riverside to Open Against Chabot at UC Irvine

Riverside College will attempt to cap an amazing turn-around when the community college state baseball championships start today at UC Irvine.
Riverside was 7-29-1 last year and last in the Orange Empire Conference. The Tigers, under first-year coach Dennis Rogers, are 32-15 this season and have set a school record for victories. Rogers was an assistant at Cal State Fullerton for two seasons before going to Riverside.
Riverside finished fourth in the conference this season but defeated conference champion Rancho Santiago and third-place Fullerton in the regional last weekend to advance.
Riverside plays Chabot (41-14) at 11 a.m. today and Los Angeles Harbor (48-5) plays Santa Rosa (35-13) at 3 p.m. The double-elimination tournament continues Sunday with the losers playing at 10 a.m. at Rancho Santiago College and the winners at UC Irvine at 11 a.m.
The championship game is 11 a.m. Monday at UC Irvine.
