TOKYO — The Tokyo area was shaken today by a moderate earthquake for the second time in five days.
No injuries or damage were reported although high-speed “bullet” train services out of Tokyo were disrupted for several minutes.
“These kinds of earthquakes are fairly common, and it doesn’t mean we’re in for a big one,” a Meteorological Agency official said.
The tremor had a magnitude of 5.3. Buildings in the capital swayed and windows rattled, but people in cars were generally unaware that a quake had occurred.
Last week’s tremor had a reading of 6.0.
