COPENHAGEN — The European family of nations became complete today when Albania applied and was unanimously accepted as an observer to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Albania’s decision to end its self-imposed isolation brought all 34 countries of the European continent together for the first time since the political divisions of World War II.
The development came on the opening day of the Conference on the Human Dimension, which is part of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe provided for under the 1975 Helsinki Final Act, attended by European nations, the United States and Canada.
