SHORT TAKES : Ford’s Whip to Aid Archeology

LONDON — Swashbuckling leading man Harrison Ford is donating the bullwhip he used in his “Indiana Jones” movies to help raise funds for a new archeology studies building, organizers said today.
“He brought archeology alive for the general public,” said Cathy Giangrande, organizer of the Institute of Archaeology’s fund-raising drive.
Ford has made three films playing the role of adventurous archeology professor Indiana Jones for director Steven Spielberg.
Ford’s bullwhip will be sold with other film and entertainment memorabilia at Christie’s auction house in December.
“We don’t know what it will fetch. Christie’s said the price depends on who goes to the sale and how badly two or more bidders might want it,” Giangrande said.
The fund-raising effort is to raise $6.7 million for the new building at the archeology institute located at University College, part of London University.
