Woman Claims Race Discrimination: A South-Central Los Angeles woman Wednesday sued Boys Market and its parent, Quality Foods International, claiming racial discrimination because she was arrested after unknowingly using a counterfeit $10 bill to pay for groceries. Joanette Brown Porter, who is black, says in her Los Angeles Superior Court suit that she was humiliated in front of patrons, then jailed overnight after using the bill. The suit claims that Boys has a policy of detaining customers, then releasing them if they are holding only one counterfeit bill. Porter seeks unstated damages. (Filed June 6, 1990. Case No. BC002777)
