Help-Wanted Ad Index Dips: A survey of help-wanted advertising volume in 51 of the nation’s major newspapers indicated continued a lackluster performance in May, the Conference Board reported. The business group’s help-wanted index dropped two points in May, coming in 15 points below its year-ago level. “The word cautious best describes the labor market right now,” said Ken Goldstein, a board economist. The South Atlantic region showed an increase in help-wanted ads as did the East South Central and West South Central regions. Ad volume declined in the other six regions tracked in the index.
