President Bush Sends Troops to Saudi Arabia
- Share via
Protecting Saudi Arabia with American troops and warplanes is reported by The Times to be a great achievement for President Bush (“Saudi Move a Triumph for Bush--but Full of Perils,” news analysis by Robin Wright, Aug. 8). I would think that King Fahd would be the one jumping for joy at the sight of U.S. F-15 fighters blitzing Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi army off the sands of Saudi Arabia. But, no, it’s a great triumph for President Bush’s personal approach to international diplomacy.
The analysis says, “As a result (of this diplomacy), the Bush Administration can take credit for winning a major concession from King Fahd.” Sending our military to the king is a concession from his majesty? Well, that’s oil business.
