A small earthquake struck about a mile southeast of downtown Hawthorne Tuesday evening, but the shaker was too minor to be felt by most people, authorities said.
The Caltech Seismology Lab reported a quake with a magnitude of 2.6 hit at 8:02 p.m. The earthquake was not believed related to any other seismic event, said Douglas Smith, a spokesman for Caltech.
There were no reports of damage or injury.
