PARENTS & FRIENDS: Despite the well-publicized antipathy of some Orange County politicians and religious figures to homosexuality, the ninth international convention of PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will open Oct. 12in Garden Grove. About 500 people are expected. . . . The county’s major competition for this year’s convention? “North Carolina,” a spokeswoman says, laughing, “Jesse Helms country.”
