Penn State will break off its football series with Notre Dame two years early to schedule Iowa, its first Big Ten opponent since joining the conference, in 1993 and ’94.
“We had a great series with Notre Dame, but as I’ve said on numerous occasions, the face of our football schedule is changing with the move to the Big Ten,” Penn State Coach Joe Paterno said.
The games with Iowa are at Iowa City in 1993 and at State College, Pa., in 1994. Penn State is not expected to play a full Big Ten football schedule until the mid-1990s because schedules are made years in advance.
