Dig Archeology at Albinger

The archeological history of the Ventura area will unfold Sunday at an open house at the Albinger Archeological Museum in Ventura.
Participants will have the opportunity to discover what archeology says about the area’s past and how its research techniques work.
“We’ll have a simulated dig where people can actually sift for buried genuine artifacts,” said Skip Robinson, a recreation coordinator of historic sites around Ventura.
“The Albinger Museum is an urban archeological site that basically traces the five different cultures which have occupied the area the past 3,500 years,” he said. They are prehistoric inhabitants, Chinese, Spaniards, Chumash Indians and Caucasians.
Along with tours and slide presentations, exercises in rebuilding broken pottery will be conducted.
“Two hands-on artifacts tables will be set up for folks to examine, also,” Robinson said.
The open house will be held noon to 4 p.m. and there is no charge. The museum is located at 113 E. Main St., Ventura. Call 648-5823.
