U.S. Seeks Oat Bran Data: The Food and Drug Administration this week sent letters to six food processors to back up label claims touting the health benefits of oat bran or end the promotions. The FDA is asking for scientific proof to support food labels linking oat bran to reduced cholesterol. The firms have 10 days to respond. The action was taken against: Ralston Purina Co., St. Louis; J&J; Snack Foods Corp., Vernon; Select Origins Inc., Yaphank, N.Y.; Continental Baking Co., St. Louis; Pacific Rice Products, Inc., Woodland, Calif., and Health Valley Foods Inc., Irwindale.
