Walter J. Fancher Jr.; Retired Design Engineer

Walter J. Fancher Jr., who worked as a Lockheed Corp. design engineer for 30 years, has died at his Glendale home. He was 77.
Fancher died Monday of cancer, said his son, Walter Fancher III of Glendale.
A native of Tonopah, Nev., Fancher graduated from the University of Nevada with a bachelor of science degree in mathematical engineering.
He moved to California in 1938 and settled in Glendale, where he lived until his death. He was hired as a design engineer by Lockheed in Burbank in 1938, working there until his retirement in 1968.
Fancher was a longtime member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Herminia; his son and three grandchildren.
At his request, there will be no funeral services. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Aftercare California Cremation and Burial Society is handling the arrangements.
Donations can be made in Fancher’s name to the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
