World IN BRIEF : LEBANON : Renegade Guerrilla Forces Battle PLO

Ten people were killed and 25 wounded near Sidon, Lebanon, in fierce fighting between gunmen loyal to renegade Palestinian leader Abu Nidal and Palestine Liberation Organization guerrillas. Abu Nidal’s Fatah Revolutionary Council was fighting hard to keep control of its headquarters inside the Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp, security sources said. The PLO issued a death sentence against Abu Nidal 16 years ago after accusing him of plotting to kill its chief, Yasser Arafat. Abu Nidal then broke with Arafat’s movement and founded his own.
