U.S. Plane Industry Threatened, Study Says: European government subsidies to Airbus Industrie, maker of Airbus commercial jets, threaten the competitiveness of the U.S. aircraft industry, a study prepared for the Commerce Department concludes. Seventy-four percent of the cost of developing Airbus models has been provided by the governments of France, Britain, West Germany and Spain, Commerce said. If the subsidies continue, U.S. makers will suffer reduced profits, Commerce said.
