KARACHI, Pakistan — Charges of abuse of power were filed against Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in Karachi High Court today.
The charges will be heard by a special court with power to disqualify Bhutto, 37, from taking part in general elections in October.
They allege abuses over a cotton contract and the appointment of a consultant on an Asian Development Bank contract, court registrar Abdul Gharfoor said.
Gharfoor declined to give details of the two charges but said they had been filed on behalf of President Ghulam Ishaq Khan, who fired Bhutto on Aug. 6, saying she had presided over a corrupt government guilty of many abuses.
